INFORMATION FOR CURRENT FAMILIES

Current students are automatically enrolled for the 2026-2027 school year unless their parents notify the school that the student will not attend NorthStar Public Schools next year. NorthStar Public Schools will honor sibling preferences if openings are available in a class and an Application Form has been returned to the school.

INFORMATION FOR NEW FAMILIES

For grades where there are more applications than there are seats available, NorthStar Public Schools will hold a lottery for the 2026-27 school year on April 30, 2026. As a result of this lottery, openings in each grade will be filled until each grade reaches maximum capacity. Siblings and children of staff have preference as per state law. Application forms must be received by 8:00pm on April 30, 2026 in order to be considered for the lottery.

After the lottery, open spaces will be filled by lot from all applicants in the applicant pool with a completed Application Form. Once a student has accepted a space in the school, sibling preference applies for other siblings in that family. Students admitted to NorthStar Public Schools will be placed in the appropriate grade based on their age and previous schooling. NorthStar Public Schools will not accept a student for kindergarten unless they are at least five years old by October 31 of the school year in which they start kindergarten.

NorthStar Public Schools Enrollment Policy establishes guidelines for enrollment into NorthStar Public Schools that are consistent with the admission requirements of Minnesota Statutes §124E.11 and other applicable laws.

NorthStar Public Schools is asking you to provide information which includes private information under state and Federal law. NorthStar Public Schools is asking for this private information so that we can process your application for admission. This information will be used to evaluate your application for admission.

You are not legally required to provide the information NorthStar Public Schools is requesting and you may [or may not] refuse to provide some or all of the information requested. However, NorthStar Public Schools may not be able to consider your application for admission if you do not provide sufficient information.

With some exceptions, unless you consent to further release of private information, access to this information will be limited to [individuals involved in the admissions process]. However federal and state law do authorize release of private information without your consent to:

• other school officials, including faculty within NorthStar Public Schools, who have legitimate educational interests in the information;

• other schools in which you seek or intend to enroll, or are enrolled;

• other schools where you are also enrolled or receiving education services;

• the federal Comptroller General or other federal, state or local education officials for purposes of program compliance, audit or evaluation;

• as appropriate in connection with your application for, or receipt of, financial aid;

• the juvenile justice system, if you are a juvenile, and the information is necessary, prior to adjudication, to determine the juvenile justice system's ability to serve you;

• an alleged victim of crime of violence or sexual assault, if you are the alleged perpetrator of the assault, and the release is of the final results of a disciplinary proceeding against you related to the alleged crime; your parents, if your parents claim you as a dependent student for tax purposes (if applicable); a court, grand jury, or state or federal agency, if the information is sought with a valid subpoena;

• an institution engaged in research for an educational institution or agency related to testing, student aid, or improved instruction;

• an accrediting organization in connection with its accrediting functions;

• appropriate persons in connection with an emergency, if necessary to protect your health or safety or the health or safety of others;

• if required by a court order, or permitted by other state or federal law;

• others as required or permitted by law.
